One of the women at the centre wrote her personal experience to share with others:

I have suffered with a social anxiety and fear of going out for a year now and it was beginning to take a major impact on my life until I got referred to the women’s centre. I hadn’t been out in ages so attending for the interview and assessment was the scariest thing to do, I panicked for nothing though because when I got here straight away I felt safe, comfortable and welcome. After I attended three days a week, I felt that confident and able that there was no stopping me. The nicest thing about this place is...no men. All women of different ages with different problems, suddenly you’re not alone anymore, you realise just how many people suffer as well as you and you learn to help each other.

I have been here for a few months and I have made so many friends. Another thing I love are the staff, they are always there for you, if you become overwhelmed by any emotion throughout the day then there is always someone you can have a private one to one with. Also you can never get bored there, are so many things you can do to cover all different aspects, for example I attend dance therapy, confidence building and self esteem, that’s my anxiety covered from different angles and that’s not even the half of how many things I do. There is a cafe here that you can sit in while you wait or just if you want chill out time, it has a drinks machine and magazines and different leaflets. Also a very gorgeous garden you can sit in, and on Fridays you can do horticultural gardening with Beanie. I advise that anyone suffering with anxiety or any issues what so ever that you feel you cannot cope with alone, then don’t do it alone, come to the ISIS Women’s Centre and let them help you. It will make a real difference in your life; it has and still is with mine.
